In October 2004 Tauranga City Council had to apply for new resource consents for the operation and expansion of the Wastewater System. In preparing the resource consent applications a lot of work done was done on investigating the effects that the Wastewater System has had on the environment and on the effects it will have in the future.

Other investigations include a Cultural Impact Assessment (CIA) - He Pukapuka Whakamaramara prepared by Antoine Coffin, Huriana Taite and the Nga Potiki Resource Management Unit.
