City Transportation’s vision for Tauranga is “A place that is easy and safe to move around”.

Transportation is about people and goods moving safely and efficiently around the transport network.  This includes roads, footpaths, cycle facilities, parking, landscaping, lighting and traffic signals.

Transportation is split into six distinct areas:

  • transportation planning
  • project development and implementation
  • network management
  • parking management
  • sustainable transport (buses and cycling)
  • asset management

A key goal for transportation is to change travel behaviour from a focus on private cars to more sustainable modes such as buses, cycling and walking.

Tauranga City Council works closely with the NZ Transport Agency, Western Bay of Plenty District Council and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to plan and deliver transport infrastructure in the City and Western Bay of Plenty sub-region.

Tauranga City Council also encourages commuters to car share.  This helps ease congestion on our roads.  To find out about car sharing go to the Car share BOP website.
