
Event organisers and stakeholders are encouraged to consider the environmental impacts of the waste produced in planning and delivery of events.
The Waste Reduction at events resource booklet (5.5mb pdf) gives you information on how to plan for waste reduction at your event and contacts for waste/recycling contractors.
Tauranga City Council supports event managers and organisers to consider waste minimisation when they are planning and implementing waste management systems at events.
Resources are available for event organisers to help them make the process of reducing the environmental impacts of their event easier. Contact the Waste Minimisation Programme Leader on (07) 577 7000 for more information.
Local success stories
Jazz festival
This flagship event implemented events recycling at both the Strand and the Historic Village on 17th on 2009 and 2010 and continue to do so. Resources were diverted from waste through manned recycling stations and work was undertaken with bars on the Strand to get them to implement recycling year round.

NZCT AIMS GAMES 2011
The NZCT AIMS GAMES brings together intermediate schools from all over New Zealand to compete in a huge range of sports over a one week period. In 2011 a Green Team of volunteer students was set up to help manage the recycling stations at all event venues.
