We all know how frustrating it is when you can't find a car park when and where you want one. Council is responsible for managing parking so that everyone who wants to find a car park can have a fair chance of finding one when and where they want.
One of the best ways to make sure everyone has a fair chance is to limit the amount of time you can park in certain areas and to charge for parking.
The challenge is putting the right time restrictions and charges on the right car parks.
It wouldn’t be sensible to have three hour parking outside a dairy where most customers only stop for five minutes, or 30 minute time limits on parks in an area where people park to visit a number of different shops at once.
Parking is a key component of Tauranga’s Integrated Transport Strategy.
There are approximately 4,000 public parking spaces in the city centre. This includes on-street parking, the two car parking buildings and off-street car parking.
