 Tauranga City Council is required by legislation to protect, promote and enhance public health within the city.  This includes many roles, such as:

  • annual registration and licensing of food premises and hair dressing salons
  • issuing licences to, and monitoring of, mobile vendors and fundraisers selling food 
  • responding to health concerns e.g. drinking water, food hygiene, or insanitary conditions
  • swimming pool water quality
  • noise control
  • monitoring compliance with city bylaws

Food hygiene complaints 

  • To report a suspected case of food poisoning or if you have found a foreign object in food you have purchased please contact the New Zealand Food Safety Authority
  • To report an unclean food premises, poor food handling or hygiene standards or the presence of vermin please contact Council on 577 7000 with the name of the premises and the date/time you were there.
