Tauranga District Plan
The District Plan is a legal document that helps us manage the city's natural and physical resources. It provides the rules for how people can build or develop the land they own. This can be land that is residential, commercial or industrial. It also includes rules on other things that are covered by the Resource Management Act - including land use, hazards, signage, reserves, noise and heritage etc.
The Council is required to write and produce a District Plan. Once completed, it generally has a life of about 10 years before needing to be revisited.

Tauranga District Plan Review - The City Plan
The Tauranga District Plan is currently being reviewed / revisited. This is being done earlier than usual because there are changes needed now to reflect the needs of our rapidly growing city. This has given us the opportunity to change the title of the plan to the more appropriate City Plan. The District Plan has been renamed the City Plan because in 2004, Tauranga's population reached 100,000 people and officially became a 'city' rather than a district.
