The length of our recruitment process can vary for each role but we will keep in contact with you regularly so you are kept informed. If you need to get in contact with us at any stage drop us an email to: recruitment@tauranga.govt.nz

Confirmation of your application

Once you have applied for a position, you will receive an email acknowledging your application.

Shortlisting

Once the vacancy reaches its closing date, all applications are reviewed and you will be contacted with an update.

The interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a panel interview. To assist in preparation for the interview please see our Interview Tips page.

Pre-employment screening

Certain roles will be subject to pre-employment screening. Where appropriate, you will be notified at the interview stage and will be asked to bring along a valid form of photo identification (e.g. passport or drivers licence). You will be required to complete the relevant forms in order for your application to progress.
Pre-employment checks can include, but are not limited, to:

  • Qualifications checks
  • Criminal history checks
  • Driving record checks
  • Drugs tests
  • Firearms license checks
  • Credit checks
  • Medical checks

Psychometric testing

Psychometric testing assessment may be used as part of the recruitment process. Different assessments are used according to the criteria of the position you are applying for.

Reference checking

Reference checks are used to obtain additional information and to verify your skills and competencies against the selection criteria. Reference checks are performed after the interview for preferred candidates.

Offer of employment

On completion of the recruitment and selection process, a verbal offer will be made to the successful candidate. Following discussion, the successful candidate will receive a formal offer of employment in writing. The offer is subject to the right to work and live in New Zealand and to appropriate pre-employment checks. Candidates may seek independent advice prior to accepting the offer.
