Some councils use a ward system when electing council members and some do not.

Tauranga City Council uses 3 wards with two elected members in each, along with 4 Councillors elected 'At Large'  (city wide) and 1 Mayor.

For the 2010 election a boundary change occured between Te Papa/Welcome Bay ward and Otumoetai / Bethlehem ward with Pyes Pa area south of the Pyes Pa roundabout and the Waimapu area to the Pukekonui Stream transferring into the current Otumoetai/Bethlehem ward.  The Otumoetai/Bethlehem ward has been renamed as the Otumoetai/Pyes Pa ward.

The wards are split into areas of approximately the same size population.

  • Te Papa / Welcome Bay
  • Otumoetai / Pyes Pa
  • Mount Manunganui / Papamoa
